I remember the excitement I felt when I started saving up for a holiday to a theme park. My parents gave me a cute duck-shaped piggybank and told me that when it was full, we would go on the trip. I didn’t work to fill it up (I was just a little kid), instead relying on my family to give me money or finding pennies here and there. I couldn’t wait for the time it was finally full.
But on the morning of our planned excursion, my mother made me a glass of vanilla milk that I didn’t like. I sipped it slowly, hoping to delay the inevitable. Unfortunately, my mother became frustrated and cancelled the trip. To make matters worse, my parents ended up going to the theme park without me, using the money I had saved.
I was devastated and cried all day when they left without me. Since that day, I’ve been hesitant about saving, especially in a piggybank. The experience taught me not to trust anyone with my money and to always keep it in my own possession.
